The first debate meeting, held on September 13th, featured a demo round about allowing the use of torture as a legitimate interrogation technique. There was an excellent turn-out. Welcome to all the new debaters and thanks to all the returning members.
The UADS schedule for the rest of September is as follows:
- September 20 – Meeting (5pm in HC 2-11). This meeting will feature seminars for new debaters and high school debaters, as well as practice rounds for returning members. If the demand warrants it, there will also be a second practice round at 6pm for anyone that is interested.
- September 27 – Meeting (5pm in HC 2-11). The elections for novice member-at-large and member-at-large will be held at the beginning of the meeting. There will also be practice rounds to follow for anyone that is interested.
- September 30 – Grant Davy’s – registration is at 10 in the Tory atrium. This training tournament is an excellent to learn to debate. It will feature training seminars as well as 3 rounds of debate where novices will be paired up with experienced partners. Lunch will be provided and there will be a BBQ to follow. The tournament will cost $5 for UADS members and $10 for non-members.
Following Grant Davy’s there will be a general meeting every Wednesday at 5pm in HC 2-11. This meeting will feature two rounds of debate, one starting just after 5pm, and one starting just after 6pm. Everyone is welcome to drop by for either of both of these rounds, in which one can debate, judge, or just watch.
You do not need to be a member to attend our weekly meetings, however, if you would like to become a member of the UADS, memberships can be purchased at any meeting from the treasurer ($20/year or $15/semester).
