First of all, congratulations to our wonderful worlds’ teams and judges that went off to Botswana and amazingly represented the University of Alberta Debate. Our performance was one of the UADS’ best historical performances at Worlds. Two of our teams, Kristen and Kathleen, and Iain and Ian, almost broke to octo-finals, ultimately placing 33rd and 34th respectively, and finishing with 18 points. Ashvin and Robbie finished with 17 points, and Sarah-Jane and Aidan finished with 14 points.Congratulations to you all!
To all of those beginning their winter semester, welcome back. We hope you are excited to be back, and are excited to learn a new style of debate, known as Canadian Parliamentary style debate (or CP for short). It’s fun, exciting, and if you’re wondering what it is, there are some guides on this website that you can check out under Debate 101.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, January 12 at 5:00 PM in HC 2-7, and there will be a quick rundown on what Canadian Parliamentary style debate entails, including basic rules, structure, timing, etc. Afterwards, we’ll be having a quick CP demo round so that you can see what it’s all about. Hope to see you all there!Signing off, Bernice Pui, VP Internal
